The data below comes from the Texas Department of Public Safety as of 2020. The data was assembled in 2019, but reflects data from 2018. It is the most current data for family violence in Texas available as of June 2021. We'll update this page whenever new statistics are released by the State of Texas and Travis County.
2018, the most recent year of released data as of 2021, saw an increase of domestic and family violence offenders across all categories including assaults, homicides, abductions and kidnappings and sexual assault and battery.
The overwhelming majority of domestic violence in the home were caused by males. Males 25-29 years old committed the highest number of offenses while 30-34 year olds had the 2nd highest number of offenders.
Some offenders are both white and hispanic.
This figure is down several percentage points since the previous reported year.
While that number may seem small please consider the math. 2018 saw 212,885 victims of family violence with over 8,000 experiencing serious injuries.
This amounts to a staggering 50,027 potential internal injuries that are hidden from view.
Or if you're like me and prefer firm numbers that's 53,647 domestic violence victims with serious lacerations.
Other includes a range of major injuries including severe burns for over 44,000 victims.
That's 37,254 victims with potential traumatic brain injury due to substantial head trauma.
22,140 victims with a major bone broken.
